With the scent of wood shavings and glue, on the scale of a production hall: in our joinery, solid wood and panels become stage worlds and scenic spaces - made to measure, transportable, ready for stage and museum.
We prefer whichever technique serves the purpose. Material, joint, radius - we choose each detail according to the task and where it will be used. A theatre flat gets different edges from a piece of exhibition furniture - sometimes practical criteria decide, sometimes aesthetic ones. And where a theatre has its own way of building, we are happy to adapt. We are always ready to learn.
Our tools have grown with the scale of our tasks: work tables of up to 8 × 2 metres are standard equipment - a classic joiner’s bench no longer fits beside them. For large-format and curved components, we have a vacuum press with a pressing area of 1,400 × 3,500 millimetres. Alongside these, we use all the usual standard-size joinery machines.
Scenery, furniture, platforms, walls - this is also where the next generation grows into the trade: hertzer has been training apprentice wood machinists for many years.

On around 530 m², our joinery builds scenery, furniture, platforms, wall and room systems and special constructions for stage sets, exhibitions and art-in-architecture projects. We work solid wood, panel materials, plastics and other project-specific materials - from one-off pieces to complex assemblies.
Painted surfaces, finishes and decorative designs are carried out by our scenic decoration and scenic painting workshops. Where needed, we coordinate special spray finishes with qualified partner companies. The close collaboration of all trades allows structure and surface to be perfectly matched.
Assemblies are divided for transport and assembly at the planning stage. Connections, fittings and structures are designed to withstand repeated set-up and dismantling reliably and to keep fitting precisely over time.
Yes. We build platforms, revolves, walk-on structures and complex special constructions, among other things. Load-bearing components, drives and technical parts are developed and realised in close coordination with our other departments.
Yes. We work both from our own shop drawings and from designs and plans by set designers, scenographers, architects and technical planning offices. Where needed, we add the details required for production and assembly.
Our constructions are designed for transport, assembly and frequent reuse. Alongside craftsmanship, planning therefore focuses on weight, divisibility, load capacity and efficient assembly. The result is solutions that meet the particular demands of theatre, exhibition and event projects.
